About Me

PaulYou are reading the website of Paul Nicholls, a 21 year old undergraduate student of Software Engineering at the University of Durham.

As well as being a full time student I also dabble in Software Development, working on a number of projects as ‘VBE Software Development’, Network Management, Web Design and DJ’ing. I am also heavily involved in events management, primarily from a technical point of view as a Technical Director or Sound Engineer. More details of these hobbies are detailed below, and additionally you can read my Blog as part of this website.

Student

Michaelmas Ball

I am currently a student at Van Mildert College, part of the University of Durham where I read Software Engineering in the Computer Science department, as part of this website there are links to some of my resources and notes from this course and I also regularly blog notes on course topics.

At Van Mildert College I am also very involved in College affairs, I currently hold the title of JCR Secretary on the Executive Committee – a job which requires me to organise, promote and oversee events in college, as well as administer many of the day-to-day tasks performed by the JCR such as minuting meetings and maintaining up to date records. In the past I have been head of the JCR PA Committee, Assistant Head of the Mildert Day Committee and held various other positions.

Software Developer and Web Designer

VBE SoftwareAs well as studying for his Degree I also do some freelance work on software projects for businesses, and have worked for several companies in the past including Jubilee Clips Ltd (part of the Lumley Robinson Group of Companies).

I have also worked on my own Software projects under the name of ‘VBE Software Development’, further information is available on these in the ‘Projects‘ section. Web Design is another line of work I have been involved in, and I have developed numerous small websites including the website for Rainham Mark Grammar School and a website for Hartsop Mill Cottage.

Events Management and DJ

Both in Durham and at home in Kent, I have worked as worked in events management, as a technical director, sound engineer, lighting operator and as a DJ. I have a good knowledge of the technical operation of a wide range of productions, and have worked in everything from Musical Stage Productions to Children’s Parties and in a wide range of venues including Professional Clubs, Halls and outdoor events.
